Medical Billing Specialist Role:
The Medical Billing Specialist will provide a professional and positive experience while assisting patients with the check in and check out procedures, verifying current information and obtaining updated information and paperwork when necessary.
Submit accurate claims to various insurance companies electronically or via paper.
Monitor and follow up on Accounts Receivable and Insurance Aging, ensuring timely submission of corrected claims, with priority given to those nearing filing deadlines.
Post payments from both insurance companies and patients.
Handle insurance appeals and follow up on their status.
Post charges using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
Follow up on submitted appeals, as well as any corrected or rejected claims from the clearinghouse.
Address patient inquiries and resolve billing issues.
Prepare and send patient billing statements.
Verify patient insurance eligibility via online platforms or phone.
Assist the front office with scheduling, collecting co-pays, deductibles, and coinsurance payments.
Support the front office in managing phone calls and assisting with prescription requests.
Medical Billing Specialist Background Profile:
1+ years of prior experience in medical billing.
Previous experience as a medical receptionist is preferred.
Certification from AAPC or AHIMA is preferred but not required.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Capable of making sound, timely decisions autonomously.
In-depth knowledge of third-party payers, including HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Familiarity with Electronic Remittance Advices and Explanation of Benefits.
Understanding of payer-specific guidelines and Local Coverage Determinations
Understanding of patient financial responsibilities, including deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance.
